GEOPRAEVENT AG in Zurich, Switzerland, develops, installs, and operates electronic alarm and monitoring systems for natural hazards.

APPROACH

To detect abnormal velocities on a glacier tongue and to warn the surrounding area, GEOPRAEVENT has installed several alarm and warning systems. streamwise was subcontracted to extract the local velocities based on sequences of webcam images. With our strong background in optical flow measurement, we decided to adapt a well-established flow velocimetry method (Particle Image Velocimetry, PIV) for this specific task. This cost-effective approach produced reliable back-up data for use in the event of failure of the primary measurement equipment. Read more on the GEOPRAEVENT page.
